Working Principle of the Inert Gas Sampling Hose & Adaptor

The Inert Gas Sampling Hose & Adaptor is used to measure the oxygen level in a cargo tank filled with inert gas, without releasing any of the inert gas. Here’s how it works:

  • Connection: The device is connected to the TANKTECH shut on-off valve on the deck using a gas sampling attachment, ensuring a secure connection that prevents leakage.
  • Gas Sampling: The portable oxygen tester absorbs inert gas through the sampling hose and measures the oxygen concentration. This is essential for verifying that the oxygen level in the tank is below the required threshold, as mandated by IMO regulations.
  • Safety Compliance: In line with IMO Resolution A.446(XI), oxygen levels are measured at two key points – 1 meter from the deck and the middle of the ullage space. These readings must not exceed 8% oxygen by volume before crude oil washing is initiated.
  • Leak-Free Operation: The system ensures no release of inert gas during sampling by maintaining a sealed environment through the shut on-off valve, enhancing safety during oxygen level checks.
  • Adapter Installation: The T2000-TOS-01 adaptor is installed on the vapor lock ball valve, allowing for easy and secure sampling operations.
  • Oxygen Measurement: Once connected, the system allows the oxygen meter to measure the gas levels accurately without compromising the inert gas seal in the tank.
