HERMetic DIP Type 2 – Portable Tank Bottom Sediment & Sludge Measurement System

HERMetic DIP Type 2 is a precision-engineered portable tank bottom dipping and sediment measurement device designed to check for the presence of sediment, sludge, and deposits at the bottom of tanks. Developed for marine and petroleum applications, the HERMetic DIP Type 2 provides operators with a practical and reliable method for manually checking tank bottoms and determining the presence of accumulated sediment.

The system incorporates a 500 mm long graduated DIP rod designed to penetrate sediments at the tank bottom. The rod is attached to a 30 m stainless-steel measuring tape, which is coiled onto a reel graduated in combined metric and English units.

The HERMetic DIP Type 2 is designed for quick installation using a quick-connect coupling and can be connected to suitable HERMetic tank valves. An additional adaptor can be supplied for connection to HERMetic valves equipped with a 2-inch connector. It is particularly suitable for oil tankers, petroleum storage tanks, marine cargo operations, tank farms, refineries, terminals, and other applications where checking for tank-bottom sediment or sludge is required.

Core Working Principle

The HERMetic DIP Type 2 operates by lowering the graduated DIP rod through the tank opening and allowing the rod to reach the tank bottom.

The 500 mm DIP rod is specifically designed to penetrate accumulated sediment or sludge at the bottom of the tank. The operator lowers the rod using the attached 30 m stainless-steel graduated tape until the tank bottom is reached.

The graduated tape provides a reference for determining the depth at which the rod reaches the tank bottom, while the penetration of the DIP rod into sediment provides an indication of accumulated deposits.

The DIP Type 2 is primarily used as a manual tank-bottom checking device rather than an electronic level gauge. It provides a simple and practical method for identifying the presence of sediment or sludge during tank inspection and maintenance activities.

The standard HERMetic DIP Type 2 incorporates a 30 m stainless-steel tape and a 500 mm graduated DIP rod. The complete unit has an approximate weight of 3.3 kg, making it suitable for portable marine tank inspection operations.

HERMetic DIP Type 2: Portable Tank Bottom Sediment Inspection

he HERMetic DIP Type 2 is a professional portable tank-bottom dipping device designed to check for sediment and sludge accumulation at the bottom of marine and petroleum tanks. The system provides a simple manual method of inspecting tank-bottom conditions without requiring electronic measurement equipment.

By combining a 500 mm graduated DIP rod, 30 m stainless-steel measuring tape, storage tube, and quick-connect coupling, the HERMetic DIP Type 2 provides operators with a practical solution for checking tank-bottom deposits.

The DIP rod is specifically designed to penetrate sediments at the tank bottom, allowing operators to determine whether deposits or sludge have accumulated. This makes the device particularly useful during tank inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and cargo-related operations.

The HERMetic DIP Type 2 uses a 30 m stainless-steel tape that is coiled onto a reel and graduated in combined metric and English units. The tape provides the operator with a direct depth reference during the dipping operation.

The standard DIP rod has a length of 500 mm and is graduated to assist with manual inspection of deposits at the tank bottom. Its design allows the rod to penetrate sediment that may otherwise make direct bottom detection difficult.

The storage tube is fitted with a quick-connect coupling, allowing the equipment to be installed quickly on compatible 1-inch quick-connect nipples. For installations involving HERMetic valves with a 2-inch connector, an additional adaptor can be supplied.

The standard HERMetic DIP Type 2 weighs approximately 3.3 kg, providing a portable solution that can be handled by operators during routine tank inspection activities.

The system is particularly useful for oil tankers, petroleum storage tanks, marine cargo tanks, refineries, terminals, tank farms, and industrial liquid storage facilities where checking the presence of bottom sediment or sludge is an important part of tank inspection.
